Academic Supports

At Conant High School, we strive to provide academic support to all students, both inside and outside the classroom in order to enhance student success.  While students are always encouraged to seek assistance from their academic teacher, a variety of resources are available for students seeking additional supports.

Counselor
Students work with their counselor to develop a personal academic plan based on their interests and goals.  The counselor can also recommend other academic supports as needed.

General Study Hall
All students with a free period are assigned a General Study Hall where they can quietly do work, visit the Media Center, or seek other academic supports in the intervention hallway.

Tutoring
Individual and small group tutoring is available throughout the school day.  Students are able to drop in for extra support as needed to ensure academic success.  The following table shows specific times and locations where these supports are available.  Students are always encouraged to talk to their teachers about specific issues in their class.

Guided Study Hall
Students may be assigned to a Guided Study Hall.  This study hall provides students with extra teacher support in a smaller setting.  In addition, students will work to develop study, organizational, and other academic skills.

Athletic Study Hall
Student athletes may be assigned to an Athletic Study Hall if their grades fall below the district standard.  This study hall is designed to give your child a quiet work environment and access to additional resources to support academic success.

Literacy Lab
Students who may benefit from additional reading skills training may be assigned to the Literacy Lab. A teacher will guide students through literacy mini-lessons designed to supplement their work in English and throughout the curriculum. Students may also receive additional support with their English homework as well as other assigned course material.

AP Coaching
Students who are taking an AP course for the first time are invited to connect with one of our AP teachers during half of their lunch hour once a week. Coaches will help students assess how they are doing in each of their classes, devise strategies for achieving success, and help students adapt to challenges of an AP-level course load.

Learning Support Team (LST)
Each LST consists of an administrator, counselors, and psychologist/social worker, which provides one point for parents and students to access support services.  This team format provides an opportunity for staff to collaborate and to address attendance, behavior, and academic issues quickly and efficiently.

Below is a chart displaying available times, locations, and staff assigned to these supports.
