Fiddler on the RoofConant Theatre
proudly presents. . .

It’s the timeless tale of Tevye, the milkman, his wife and five daughters balancing their lives like a Fiddler on the Roof! Set in the little village of Anatevka, with the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill in them the traditional values leaving the audience crying tears of sadness, joy and laughter.

Under the Direction of Katherine Apperson, more than 100 Conant High School students and faculty have collaborated over a three-month period to create the 2017 musical which opens on Thursday, October 26, 7 p.m. at the CHS Plate Auditorium and runs through Saturday, October 28 at 7 pm.

The Background. Winner of nine Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is the brainchild of Broadway legends, Jerome Robbins and Harold Prince; songwriters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick; and book writer, Joseph Stein. Touching audiences worldwide with its humor, warmth and honesty, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a staple of the American musical theatre.

The Music. With iconic and beloved songs like “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “Tradition!,” the Conant cast is under the musical direction of Tim Koll, CHS Choral Director. The Dramaturges.
The richness of the Jewish culture in the book and music of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF required a new approach for the CHS Musical Team. So, English Teacher Stephanie Svarz and Senior Molly Holcomb have come onboard as our Dramaturges. Coaching the cast, crew and orchestra through presentations, the Dramaturges also developed a website at which is open to the public. For the students, these resources will help them learn the language, culture, traditions and the humor of the Jewish culture to make more educated choices as the production comes to life. For our audience, these resources may help you develop a deeper understanding of the production. Enjoy your pre-show research. . .L’chaim!
